I bought this medal in Puri, India while in the Peace Corps in 1970. It is an original Bronze 1903-04 Tibet Expedition Campaign medal. The medal was instituted in February, 1905 and was awarded to participants in the Tibet Mission and accompanying troops who served between December 13, 1903 and September, 1904 in the punitive expedition that followed the Tibetan refusal to accept British political influence or trade with British India. Most examples were awarded to In...dian forces such as ours. The front of the medal depicts Edward VII and the reverse depicts the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. The metal has an affixed claw and ornate scroll swivel ribbon bar suspension. The edge of the medal is engraved with the name of the person to who it was awarded: Cooly Dham Bahadur Rai S & T Corps. The medal is 36 mm in diameter and is in nice original condition. It weighs 33.4 grams.
