HO Brass Southern Pacific C-9 Class 2-8-0with ‘Whaleback’ Tender. Produced by Katsumi Mokeiten (KTM) of Japan in 1967-1971.Runs Well. Sold AS-IS This classic Japanesebrass model of a Southern Pacific consolidation runs quite smoothly. Thoughhalf a century has passed since its production, the model is in excellentcondition.SP’s large fleet of C-92-8-0 locos were products of the Baldwin Locomotive Works produced between 1905and 1908. Many remained in service until the end of steam ...operations on theESPEE in the late 1950’s. This model features a ‘Whaleback’tender; one of many variations used on the locomotives over the years. (Balboaalso offered the model with a cylindrical tender).This model has been storedidle for many years. It operates quite smoothly, but will certainly benefitfrom basic maintenance. Typical of Katsumi production from this time period, the model features a 5-pole open-frame motor which occupies most of the cabinterior. It is being sold AS-IS.The entire frame anddriver centers are painted black. I believe this to be skillfully custompainted – rather than factory paint. Nonetheless, the paint is smooth and showsno signs of wear.Some tarnish is visiblethroughout the unpainted parts of the model. I expect it will clean up nicely whenthe next owner completes the paint job!The model is providedin its original box, although the original packing material has been replaced.This popular andversatile model has survived the last half century.
