Original Description:
This is a Japanese woodblock titled Tree Sparrow and Camellias in Snow by Utagawa Ando Hiroshige (1797-1858). The original woodblock was produced somewhere around 1830. This is a vintage one but the exact date is unknown. It is in an older quite heavy wooden frame with glass and double matting. The woodblock is embossed. What is left of the original paper backing is dark and rigid. The inner backing is still intact with lots of wear on the exposed part. Total size is 14" x 22" with the... woodblock approximately 7 1/2" x 15 1/2". The woodblock itself is in excellent condition. From the front it is a beautiful representation of a very fine woodblock.
