AS IS.
I no very little about model trains but this was an interesting find from an on-line auction. It is really heavy and beautifully detailed.
I have very little information on the train, other than the original owner bought it and paid about $1300 for it. He said it didn't smoke enough and lurched at a certain speed but the sound and ever...ything was working. He gave it to a local guy that worked on trains to fix and he set the speed to 8, what ever that means. That's all I know. I don't know if worked afterwords. I don't have a way of testing the unit.
In looking at the outside of the locomotive and tender, I don't see any broken parts. It could use some cleaning but overall, no rust and has a very light oil on the bottom of the locomotive. Looking at the manual it talks about an wireless infrared communication was used at the coupler. Thsi locomotive has a 10 pin and single pin connector that mates to the tender connectors. Just guessing, but that looks like a modification back to a wired system?
I'm and electronic guy so I opened the tender, and noted that cover mounting screws were not in the correct location according to the manual that comes with the train. The tender has been modified by cutting off one of the mounting pegs in the cover to accommodate the relocation of the blue speed potentiometer? (See Photos) There is also one internal connector that was not connected and I don't know to which socket it belongs. I don't see any solder repairs on the circuit boards. The small tie wraps on the wire bundles look intact.
I didn't attempt to open the locomotive. The manual calls out four screws but there are lots of screws located on the bottom.
Hopefully someone out there will know what was done and can get it running or use it for parts.
The Locomotive and Tender come in the original box. There is a amll smushed spot on one of the edges, you can see it in the photo graph. It doesn't effect placing the styrofoam case back in the box. It also has the manual and a couple of small papers.
I have lots of pictures if there is something specific you want to see. let me know if you have questions or have an idea on how to at least get the sound to work. I have some electronic equipment, but don't have train controller or a veritable AC transformer.
Keep in mind it may not work at all.
This is a heavy shipper, so it will probably go out FedEx ground.
Thanks for looking.
