Offered for auction is this Hampden 14 Karat Gold Filled 1 5/16 inch diameter Pocket Watch with clip-on Necklace Chain. The watch movement was manufactured by the Hampden Watch Co., circa 1898. The Case was made for this movement by the Dueber Watch Case Co. The works plate is marked : MOLLY STARK CANTON, O. 1165398 U.S.A. There is also an F and S setting for adjusting the speed. The inside of the cover for the works, has the impressed circa 1895 Dueber mark GUARANTEED TO ...BE MADE OF TWO PLATES OF 14 KARAT GOLD OVER FINE HARD METAL AND TO WEAR FOR 20 YEARS, with case serial number 3673975. The outside of the works cover is engraved M.A.S. over 99. The inside of the front of case dial cover is marked with case serial no. 3673975. The inside of the back cover is impressed marked DUEBER inside of a box, TRADE MARK CANTON O U.S.A. 3673975. The outer sides of the front and back cover are decorated with engraved with an Owl Flying Over a Floral Scenery with Diamond-Shaped Stars Bordering the Horizon. The time can be adjusted by releasing a lever on the side of the face and turning the crown. The chain is marked STURDY / 12K 1/20 G (12 karat gold plate).
Condition : I set and wound the watch a few hours ago and it is still ticking on time. When the crown is pressed down, the face cover opens properly, with by a still strong spring. The crystal face cover has no cracks or scratches. The overall condition of both watch and chain shows to be well cared for with no sign of wear or abuse.
