Today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful antique traveling campaign miniature checker or chess board! This 19th century piece is a Civil War-era relic was part of a local New England estate with several other Civil War artifacts. This traveling chess board is finely crafted and detailed. The piece is square-shaped and features raised edge border molding on the top side. Both sides features inlaid marquetry chess pattern in contrasting woods. The piece was no doubt used by soldiers to distract themselves during breaks in battles. The chess board is in remarkably well-preserved condition. Item presents well and is in very good antique as-found condition, with minor surface wear/scuffing and patina commensurate with age. There is a very slight stable gap on one side between chess board and molding. This fine and handsome campaign lap chess board will make a fine addition to any militaria and antique chess board collection...Fresh to the market!
