A Confederate Soldier's letter and cover with 10 cent manuscript marked, from Thomas W. Patten, Co. C., 60th Rgt., North Carolina troops to his mother, Mrs. Jas W. Patton Sr. Dated November 12, 1862 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It mentions that they have been there for four weeks, describes the camp, under the command of General Breckenridge. The enemy has strongly reinforced at Nashville, and don't expect to attack them but will await their attack. Mentions a great number of deaths due... to illness within the regiments and his concern for his wife's difficulty in getting clothing for the Negroes. He obviously has hired some of his Negro slaves out and is concerned if the persons that he has hired the Negroes to are providing them with clothing per the contract. Excellent war period letter from a Confederate officer. The letter was written in thin paper, and the back side shows through a little in the photos, however, it is easily read in person! The letter has been transcribed, and that will accompany the original.
