19th CENTURY JAPANESE STONEWARE POTTERY
ZEN BUDDHIST DARUMA OKIMONO / FIGURINE
You are being offered a Hand Painted Antique Japanese Stoneware Pottery Okimono or Figurine of Daruma, the Japanese Father of Zen Buddhism, modeled enveloped in his Monastic Red Robe, standing Barefoot while holding a Fly Wisk in his Hands. We are fairly certain the Figurine was made during the 19th Century, most likely after 1850 and it has a Kanji Script Mark impressed in the Clay on its Blac...k Lacquered Bottom. The Figurine stands almost 9½ inches high and measures a little over 4¾ inches long from Side to Side and 4 inches wide from Front to Back. There is a considerable amount of Lacquer loss due to rubbing; otherwise, the Daruma Figurine is in Good Condition, without any chip, cracks or scratches.
