It measures 86" by 73" across and weighs 3 lbs 14 oz, which is a bit heavy considering the quilt has a rather thin layer of batting inside. The bed is a queen, 80" by 60".
All the fabrics used are feed sacks, to the best of our knowledge. The backing is old creamy burlap cotton that might be also some kind of sack "recycled" in a farm. This quilt certainly is a farm made item, a beautiful bedspread rather than a comforter, put together with those beautiful colors for the enjoyment o...f a family: a very fine piece of American folk art.
The piecing and quilting were done by hand.
The telltale sign of these being feed sacks can be seen on pic # 11, the string of tiny holes left on the edges of the feed sacks by the thread after it is removed to flatten the sacks and make them ready for the quilters to use them as fabric.
