Description A fine rare English Colonial/Anglo-Indian antique 19th century solid silver pepper caster by the silversmiths Charles, Nephew & Co, (Calcutta -1848-18...70) in lovely condition and dating from around 1850. Excellent quality genuine 170 year old example; beautiful Georgian shape with its original pierced silver pull-off lid with gadrooned border and it rests on a circular pedestal base. Nicely decorated with the engraved motif "PEPPER" on the front and has a period entwined monogram on the back. Good heavy silver weight, 80 grams and is ready to be used. A scarce item.Measurements Measures approx. 3.45 inches (87mm) in height and is 1.55 inches (39mm) in diameter. Date English Colonial/Anglo-Indian antique 19th Century solid silver, hallmarked with a lion passant silver stamp, the letter "A" and a "star" mark. Dates from around 1850. Also stamped with the silversmiths initials "C.N & Co" (Charles Nephew & Co - Calcutta 1848-1870). Condition Lovely condition, with no repairs and no nasty knocks or dents, just a couple of very minor little pinhead bruises. The silver pull-off lid is the perfect tight fit and the pierced top is undamaged. Beautiful quality example with a good heavy silver weight and nicely decorated with the motif "PEPPER" on the front.
