US Army Air Forces B-17 bomber pilots and air crewmen early in WW2 were issued the classic B-3 (jacket) and A-3 (pants) sheepskin leather flight uniform to protect against frigid temperatures at high altitudes. The first B-3s and A-3s produced by the Rough Wear Clothing Co. of Middleton, PA in 1941 featured a distinctive reddish hue; their early sheepskin came to be known as "redskin". This pair of US Army AAF WW2 B-17 BOMBER PILOT "REDSKIN" A-3 SHEEPSKIN LEATHER FLIGHT PANTS are i...n very good condition, with heavy verdigris patina to the zippers throughout, rendering all of them non-functional, some small surface tears at the inner back right ankle, and with some scattered fragility and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the pants are in fine shape, with no other damage to the lustrous "redskin" sheepskin leather construction. Most interestingly, they measure to a Size 32 Waist, boast a thick, warm "golden" brown sheepskin fleece interior, and carry the original "TYPE A-3" AAF nomenclature label inside. The pants sport a metal chain hanger at the interior back waist, exhibit the hand marked name tag of "LT Crane" attached to the fly zipper, and are again hand named to "LT. CRANE" at the interior middle back of the original integral suspenders. They feature open top "milk chocolate" brown horsehide leather pockets at the lower front legs, along with matching horsehide leather seam tapes throughout, and are a fine example of very rare, original US Army AAF WW2 B-17 BOMBER PILOT "REDSKIN" A-3 SHEEPSKIN LEATHER FLIGHT PANTS.
