Click images to enlarge Description For your consideration, a rare and very limited authentic piece of the exterior skin of a German V-2 Rocket #FZ04/20919.
According to European records this rocket came off the Mittelwerk assembly line (underground manufacturing facility) in December 1944. This rocket was sent to firing sites in Westerwald but was sent back to Kleinbodungen for repair for some reason. In april 1945, American tanks and infantry rolled into Kleinbodungen and found a number of complete V-2's. One of those liberated was this one #20919.
This rocket eventually made it to White Sands Missile Range in Alamogordo, New Mexico in the early 1950's where it became a display until 2001. It was then sent to Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, Kansas where it underwent a complete restoration including a new exterior skin. See the second to the last photo that shows the completely restored V-2.
A very limited number of pieces of the original V-2 like this one were saved and returned to White Sands Missile Range Historical Foundation and were sold to raise money for the restoration. I made a sizeable donation to obtain this rare piece of history. I'm now thinning out my collection and offering it for sale.
The metal skin strip is approximately 2" wide and 21" long and includes the original letter of authenticity and history of the V-2 rocket from the White Sands Missile Range Historical Foundation. To prevent copying or fraud, I did not post any close up photos of the letter to this listing, but you can be assured it's authentic and you can verify this by calling the Foundation office.
