Original Description:
Hamilton model 21 Marine chronometer mainspring.  This is a new old stock mainspring that has been in storage since WWII!
If you are or will be completing an overhaul of one of these fabulous machines, be sure to replace the mainspring.  Just as any other spring powered instrument, years of use and time itself, diminish the even power distribution of a marine chronometer's mainspring.  It makes sense to install a new mainspring when the chronometer is disassembled.&nb...sp;  
The mainspring is part #4 in the first picture and is listed as Hamilton part #: 42038.
