Race day was always meaningful to Ed and hisfamily, especially when it ended with a Jeff Gordon victory. When Ray Evernham’s young son wasdiagnosed with pediatric cancer while Ray was Jeff’s crew chief, Ed – like manydedicated #24 fans – felt the blow of such a devastating diagnosis. Ed’s daughter, who coordinated the donation of her Dad’scollection, wanted to do something to “honor and memorialize [her] family’schampion.” Jeff wanted to honor that champion as well – and pledged to match upto $15, 000 of the sales from Ed’s collection. By donating his collection and supplying JGCF with hundredsof items to sell over a period lasting more than three months – November 18, 2019 to February 16, 2020 – Ed and his family have made a superhero-sized contributionto the race against childhood cancer.
