KM 8.1, one year type, from an unusual location, issued for the Transvaal while it was under Dutch (Boer) control. Silver crown, with President Kruger on the obverse.
British forces captured the Dutch colony at the Cape of Good Hope in 1795 and 1806, and obtained title to it in 1814. Dutch farmers (Boers) migrated north to leave British control, and formed two republics (the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek (or Transvaal) and the Orange Free State) to the north of the British area.
