During World War II The United States issued special currency for the island of Hawaii and for troops in North Africa. The North Africa notes have a striking yellow seal and are silver certificates. The notes wereissued as pay to all military personnel involved in theNorth Africa campaign. Wanting to protect theAmerican currency supply in the region, the government decided to issue this special currency in case of a German take-over and the distinctive seal gave it a ...very unique look, enabling the US Government to immediately declare these North Africa Notesworthless if they fell into the hands of the Germans. The notes were offered in 3 denominations: One Dollar, FiveDollar, and Ten Dollar. The OneDollar Bills (Silver Certificates) were issued using a 1935A Series identifier. The Five Dollar Bills and the Ten Dollar Bills were issued using Series 1934A (the $10 bill was also issued using a 1934 Series identifier.
