This is one dress you don't want to miss if you collect rare antique odd clothing pieces or Halloween or witchy textiles....it's a fun one! All you need is the right pair of old antique black boots and a hat and a broom and you will be all set! It's the absolute BEST antique 1800's 2 piece calico peplum style dress I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying in my collection for quite a while where it proudly graced an antique peg rack year round when it wasn't being worn for Autumn holiday... events. Check out all the pics and it's WAY better in person than they could ever show you. A very rare midnight black calico celestial star cotton print that I never see much of anymore. And the style of the poofy sleeves and shoulders and a gathered waist with the long skirt is even better on when you're wearing it but it's hard to get a good pic of it hanging like it is and you can either wear the blouse tucked inside the skirt or outside over the waist. Again see the pics....it's an amazing piece of history and made from some rare old fabrics. And it's still in good shape for it's age and ready for you to wear.
This lovely dress is a blouse and skirt as we already mentioned and is both hand and treadle sewn. There is a lined bodice inside the top that fastens with old hooks and the outside fabric also fastens with old hooks. The buttons are on there for decoration to make it look like it buttons in the front but it actually fastens from the inside hidden hooks on both the inside bodice and the black calico outer fabric. See pics for more details of this. The top measures about 14 inches across from shoulder seam to shoulder seam. The bust is very giving with the pleats in that area but it best fits about a 32-34 and could also be altered if needed. The waist measures about 26 - 28 and can be altered with the gathers in the back which can be let out if you need to add some extra room anywhere. This top measures about 22 inches long and has an unfinished hem that you can also alter but there are buttons on the back which attach to the skirt if you tuck it in they keep it in place. The sleeves are very full with lots of fabric overall so it gives this a great haunting style. The skirt is very full from the waist to the bottom and measures about 40 inches long and the waist is very gathered at about 28 - 30 inches and can also be altered because of the extra amount of fabric in this. If you are a seamstress or if you have basic sewing skills you can adjust this to fit if your measurements fall somewhere close to these listed and you need to make alterations.
Overall this dress is still in very good original shape and can still be worn as it was stored properly over the years. There are some small wear spots and some small mends as expected with an antique original textile of this era but nothing we consider a big apology and no bad fading or other problems that we can see. We left it as we found it and it has been worn to various Autumn holiday events since we have owned it in our collection but it's still very clean with no other problems to mention.
