Post Office hand stamp used in sorting offices to recover under paid postage.( pre 1970).Pre decimal as can be seen by the D on the stamp head. The postal officer would stamp the item and write in the required amount to be collected in the space provided. A postage due stamp would then be placed on the letter and handed to the postman for deliveryThe postman would collect the required amount on delivery. The stamp is 4" ( 100mm ) high made of wood with a brass head.
