A very nice and rarer example of a large late 19thC Lancashire Watch Company (LWC) pocket watch under the banner of the infamous John Forrest.
Hefty 54mm diameter solid silver full hunter case, in excellent condition, hallmarked Chester 1898/9, and bearing the stamp T.P.H.
This relates to one Thomas P Hewitt, the founder of the LWC....and this mark is found on most LWC cases.
Hinged... front inner bezel
Inside is a superb Prescot made going-barrel movement, fitted with a reversing pinion to facilitate an anticlockwise winding motion.
The condition is excellent, and it is of course in full working order.
Keeps very good time throughout the entire wind.
The signed dial is very good. It does have a light hairline from centre to around 10 o'clock.
There is also a small chip repair at 5, but it is not very noticeable at all.
Otherwise it's great.
The crystal is an acrylic replacement, which has some age and surface marks and fade..not perfect, but is still in quite good condition...no cracks or chips or breaks.!
Original glass crystals are very brittle and easily damaged, and acrylic replacements over the years are quite common.
Overall, this is a very substantial late Victorian men's timepiece, with much history attached.
Complete with it's original movement dust cover, and winding key.
UK postage will be by Special Delivery.
