AWESOME JUST SERVICED 1939 GIRARD PERREGAUX SHELL OIL Advertising Watch. 20, 000 of These Watches Were Produced in Order to Advertise "Golden Shell Oil" Using the Slogan "Golden Shell Oil is So Fine That it Can Lubricate This Fine Swiss Watch." The Watches Were Made in Switzerland and Shipped to the States, But Upon Arrival it W...as Discovered that the Oil Had Failed and the Watches Would Not Run. They Were shipped Back to the Factory and Cleaned and Serviced with Watch Oil and Again Sent to the States. It is Unknown Exactly How Many were Returned In the Second Shipment, But it is Presumed that it Was a Significant Drop From the Original Production Line. It has Been Estimated by Industry Experts That Less Then 2000 of the Original Run Still Exist Today, and That Only a Tiny Percentage of Those are in Quality Running condition. Shell Proceeded to Distribute the Watches Through Dealers Anyway. Very Cool Story For a Very Cool Watch From a Very Prestigious Swiss Maker.
The Watch is a Size 10s (Lawyer of Dr's "Dress Size") and Measures 1-11/16" Across, Not Including the Double Sleeved Stem. The Watch has a Skeletonized Dial and Movement with a Black Enamel Number Ring and a Subsidiary Second Registry (Second Dial). The Watch is a 7 Jewel and is Hallmarked Both "Girard Perregaux & Co" And "Shell." It has Just Been Serviced and is Running and Keeping Excellent Time
