Wedgwood Kruger National Park, South Africa, decorative plate with the image of a Springbok.
Part of a series of black or very dark brown transferware plates with different central animals and a pictorial border of trees and animals.
This plate was part of Wedgwood's second series, first edition of these plates commemorating the wildlife preserve.
Though they look older, these plates were produced from 1972 to 1975. The border was designed by the wife of the park's first chief... warded, Hilda Chalmoddeley, and the central animals are printed from hand engravings from the Wedgwood School of Engraving -- according to information on the pieces on the park's website.
The plate is 10 3/4 inches in diameter and has a cloth plate hanger firmly affixed to its back.
