US Army Corps of Engineers troopers early in Vietnam often wore the classic khaki pith helmet for sun protection in the hot, humid tropical climate. It was withdrawn due to its similarity to the sun helmets worn by North Vietnamese Army (NVA). This US Army Vietnam CORPS OF ENGINEERS KHAKI PITH HELMET is in excellent condition, with some dark spot soiling at the left brim, some light "browning" to the interior crown, a bit of crazing to the bottom edge of the front right sweatband, ...missing the chinstrap, and with some light scattered age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the helmet is in excellent shape, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or other damage to the crisp khaki cotton covered pressed fiber construction. Most interestingly, it's a one size fits all by way of the adjustable brown leatherette sweatband, boasts a khaki finished metal insignia grommet at front and 5 ventilation grommets at each side of the crown, and is dated 1966 (DSA-100) in the "HELMET SUN" nomenclature stamping inside. A beautiful example of a rare, original US Army Vietnam CORPS OF ENGINEERS KHAKI PITH HELMET.
