Condition – overall excellent and solid, oldfinish, slight curving on top board, exceptional solid repair on ankle of one leg (photo 12), three later laminated interior covers/one original, three replaced foot-pads, repairs are well-done and solid. 1297
- Roed Jorgen, Denmark (1808-88). Danish golden Age painter and designer. Hedesigned this table in 1841 after visiting Napoli and Pompeii. A finely craftedand carved high quality stand of exceptional cabinetwork, carving andexquisitely done leg and paw feet. A simple almost “Modern” design. An exampleis in the Copenhagen Museum, Denmark.
Roed Jorgen was among a group of mid 19th century painters that alsodid interior design, decorations and furniture.
- Sabicu (Lysiloma sabicu) an early used fine wood from CaribbeanIslands and Central America and similarities to rosewood and mahogany. A dense woodwith characteristics similar to mahogany, a close, firm smooth grain, a lighterchestnut brown color and often with some tiger grain as seen on the top ofthis example. Wood on this stand has not been scientifically tested.
Lysiloma/Wild Tamarind/sabicu/sacquebu are various scientific classification/commonnames. This wood was occasionally used in 18th and early 19thcentury fine cabinet working circles and seen on these cabinetmaker’s work.
