A Wonderful and rare Antique Japanese Koro, or Incense Burner made in the shape Jurojin, the Deity of Longevity, riding one of his familiars, a beautiful Deer. It is Gilt Bronze and dates to the late Edo Period, or around 1820. It is a terrific example of Japanese metal work, with the Deer's delicate stance perfectly captured and old Jurojin, most happily mounted.These figures which are still functional are much sought after and highly prized, especially when, as in this case, the fig...ure is beautifully made, is in excellent condition with an exceptional patina and is of a personage and not just a decorated pot. This Jurojin and his familiar Deer are a charming and cheerful companion on any desk or mantel, whether or not they are sending up those delicately scented plumes.
