Description: This auction is for a charming Meissen porcelain figure of a young servant girl holding a tray with a trembleuse cup filled with chocolate, and a glass of milk. The modeller Paul Helmig at the Meissen manufacture created the Chocolate Girl around 1901. The figurine is based on the famous painting 'La belle chocolatière' by the Swiss painter Etienne Liotard. This painting hangs ...in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden (Germany).The girl wears a long dress with an apron. Her head is covered by a bonnet. On this figurine the cup and saucer and the glass of milk are fixed to the tray. The figurine measures 7 ¼ " (184 mm) high, by 3.75" deep by 3" (75 mm) wide. It weighs 470 grams.
The figure is hand decorated in wonderful bright colours, partially enhanced with gold. It is marked on the base with the Meissen crossed swords mark in underglaze blue and the incised marks: ’34 –T 5’. It has a wonderful appearance and is in perfect condition, without damages or repairs. See the pictures for your own impression. I guarantee age (c. 1900) and authenticity as described above.
