Found at an old Antique Business owner's shop this spring was this pair of I P FRINK of New York Wall Hanging Oil Lamps. He had acquired them from a serious oil Lamp collector in Montreal, Quebec. I had seen round I P Frink oil lamp fonts before but not this shape. Looking through my reference books and specifically Catherine Thuro's OIL LAMPS 3 (page 159) , I found a photo of a table or hanging ceiling lamp with the same marked fonts. The I P Frink company started b...y making oil lamps, marine lamps, reflectors and industrial lamps and became the most prolific makers of lighting fixtures and other ornamental fixtures in N. America. Their first business address was at 549-561 Pearl Street in Manhattan and they made many moves over their 100+ years of business. They closed in 1974. These oil lamp fonts were early products of this company. they may have started as part of a hanging lamp and may have been converted to wall lamps with wall fixtures provided by I P Frink. They came with those period burners requiring lip/flanged chimneys that we will not be including because of their fragility and possible breakage, They are reasonably available in antique lamp shops. One photo shows the possible finished look but with a round student lamp shade (not included). They both have a round glass wafer end that are marked I P Frink, N.Y. They measure 8 1/2" from the brass wall base to the tip of the marked wafer by 4" wide by 4 1.2" high to the top of the collar and have separate filler caps.
