An authentic one-of-a-kind collectible Victorian crazy quilt top from the 1900’s era. This quilt top was hand-stitched in Pennsylvania by my grandmother for her trousseau (married in 1916) and has been well-preserved inside a blanket chest for over 50 years and then rolled in a sheet out of the sun for the last 30 years. It has rarely seen the light of day which kept the colors fresh. It's a beautiful masterwork of stitching and fabric placement.
These quilt top...s were often left unfinished and used as draped coverings on Victorian furniture such as pianos; however, someone with sewing skills can finish it if desired.
The overall condition of the quilt top is excellent. There is minor deterioration of one or two of the black silk pieces due to the original dye chemistry. There are no stains or breaks in the stitching. The beautiful and complex embroidery stitches vary throughout. Comes from a smoke-free home.
