There is an area of age/dirt discoloration to upper areas of the sampler that may be restored but this remains a really wonderful piece of silk work on a linen ground.
Of particular interest are the names of her parents, John & Sarah Campion (My Mother & Father) and the images of a red-coat soldier with paper face in a military camp land...scape and a lady in a white muslin dress, again with a paper face which perhaps represent her parents.
To the lower section Sarah stitch superb examples of baskets and bouquets of flowers complementing the silk threads with velvet and silk ribbon applique (leaves and ribbon around the bouquet).
In fine stitch work Sarah included a verse and rows of alphabet & numbers. She completed her work with a trailing ribbon and rose border.
The sampler measures 38.00cm width by 52.00cm length and is unframed and in unrestored/as found condition. Apart from the area of discoloration the sampler is in good overall condition with no dye run, stitch loss or holes. There is localised age staining and dye fade around the area of discoloration.
