Important 19th C. AAFA 1837 Jacquard Coverlet By Abraham Lapp, Bucks County PA
Item History & Price
This coverlet was woven by Abraham Lapp of New Britain, PA in 1837 for his client, Margaret E. Long of Warwick Township.
Abraham Lapp (1807-1889) is believed to be the earliest weaver in the Bucks County area to use the Jacquard attachment that fit on top of the loom. He began making these coverlets in 1835 and stopped around 1851. His work was featured in an ...exhibit of twelve weavers at the Mennonite Heritage Center in Souderton in 1988. I have included an photo of the newspaper article on the exhibit, which includes a partial photo of another Lapp coverlet that features the same flower border as the coverlet above.
The coverlet is in good condition for its age with typical areas of wear / browning.
The coverlet measures approximately 7 feet long by 7 feet wide. It is pictured on a queen size bed above.
