Youare bidding on a very nice, very clean, Heathkit Model IG-102 RF SignalGenerator Series No. 13530. I doubt ifyou will find a nicer IG-102 on eBay. Iam not the original owner. Date-codessuggest that this was kitted no earlier than Aug.’65. The front panel has been rubbed out withseveral coats of Meguiar’s Car Cleaner/Wax. Five of the original knobs have been replaced with Radio Shack 1”hexagonal knobs P/N 274-0416. The front panel ...Amphenol-type connectors havebeen replaced w/BNC. The cabinet has been sanded and over-sprayedwith VHT SP-205 high-temperature gray wrinkle, and is very close, if not amatch, to the original Heathkit gray wrinkle. The solitary dual filter capacitor C25A/B has been replaced by twodiscrete 22ufd and 47ufd 160V axial-lead capacitors. A 3-position terminal strip has been added tofacilitate that replacement. Bands Athrough E are calibrated with a single tweak at C6 (or C7 depending on yourmanual). I did NOT adjust any of the coils. The stated accuracy of the IG-102 is 2% and in checking 23 points onBands A through D (100 KHz to 11 MHz), where I’ve used the IG-102 the most, theworst-case error is 3.25%. The average accuracyof those 23 points is 1.42%. With afrequency counter, adjusting the individual coils and C6 (or C7), you canimprove the accuracy of the dial with a bit of patience. The range switch's detent assembly is a bit stiffer than some, but the switch is fully OK.
Anote to the new owner - the attached warm-up tests confirm the obvious - the HeathkitIG-102 is an “economy” RF Signal Generator. It is NOT a frequencystandard!!! Its individual bands are NOT temperature-compensated. The five individual coils for Bands A-E arewound on phenolic coil forms. Warm-up drift increases as you increase thefrequency on any given Band. Statedanother way, as the main-tuning capacitor’s capacitance decreases by turningthe dial in a clockwise direction, increasing the output frequency, theIG-102’s warm-up drift increases. Thelowest frequencies are the most temperature-stable. Warm-up drift also increases as you stepthrough Bands A-E. The most stablefrequencies are below 1, 000 KHz. As ageneral-rule, you should allow the IG-102 a couple of hours to warm up, evenmore if you anticipate output frequencies greater than 1, 000 KHz and toward thehigh-end of the dial. I would say thatthe warm-up characteristics of this IG-102 are “typical”.A copy of the manual can be found on-line, butI will include a copy on CD-R. Thewinning bidder will pay a fixed $25 shipping fee and I will promptly refund anyexcess. PayPal only. CONUS only. Pleaseemail me with any questions. Dave - WA6VVL
