1849 and 1868 CATALOGUES - PHILLIPS ACADEMY, Andover, Massachusetts * Fresh from a local estate auction are these two great pieces of early Phillips Academy history * The 1849 Catalogue measures 5-5/8" by 9" and contains 24 pages * The 1868 Catalogue measures 5-3/4" by 9-1/4" and contains 24 pages * Both contain a list of Trustees, a list of Instructors, a list of Abbreviations, a list of Students i...n the Classical Department and the English Department, the Course of Study and Instruction, The Terms and Conditions of entry into Phillips Academy and the cost tuition * In 1849 there was an entrance fee of $5 to get into the Classical Department and a $6 tuition, returned at the end of the course to indigent and could provide proof. For the English Department tuition was 40 cents per week for entry level, 50 cents per week for the advance level, with no refund to the indigent student. * In 1868 tuition in the Classical Department had risen to $15 per term and $12 per term in the English Department. * Food and lodging expenses were also given in both Catalogues. *CONDITION: > Both catalogues are in very good condition.
