***********When I purchased this watch it hadn't run since 1997. After replacing the original SR920SW battery with a brand new Energizer 371 replacement battery on 10/3/18 the movement immediately fired up and kept accurate time for several hours. Then the seconds hand stopped moving and wouldn't run for nearly 20 hours before it unexpectedly fired up again after the pictures for this listing were taken. I reset the time and it ran strong and kept accurate time for another ...several hours before stopping again. I imagine that it will continue to start and stop for extended periods of time. The movement will need to be looked at by a skilled watchmaker. At a minimum a service is required. At worst the movement will need to be replaced.***********This seldom seen vintage Bulova Marine Star 100 M diver was purchased from the estate of the original owner, who wore it as his trusted companion until his passing in 1997. It has a black "T SWISS 90851 T" signed dial that looks to be in pristine condition, obscured by what looks to be an AR coated crystal that should have its underbelly cleaned as it is hazy and dirty. The original lume on the dial and hands emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light. The bezel, which ratchets unidirectionally, looks good. The T3 stainless steel case is in excellent condition showing minor wear and free of any oxidation. The outside of the case back is stamped "T3 STAINLESS STEEL CASE WATER RESISTANT BULOVA QUARTZ." The inside of the case back is stamped "C 845036" followed by "HONG KONG" and "BULOVA." The crystal, which appears to be AR coated, should have its underbelly cleaned to improve dial visibility. The seven jewels Swiss ETA 955.412 movement with quickset date function is clean but runs sporadically, starting and stopping for extended periods of time. The quickset date function works flawlessly by pulling out the non-screwdown crown to the first position and then turning the crown clockwise until the desired date has been reached. Given that the movement runs inconsistently it will need, at a minimum, a service and at worst to be replaced. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 38 mm including the crown andapproximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from thebottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 8 mm. The crystal does not add any measurable increase in thickness.
Given that the movement has a tendency to run inconsistently it will need to be, at a minimum, serviced and at worst replaced. As suchthere are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of thiswatch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is thatold-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrongfrom time to time. For this watch that time is now. Anyservicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
