Chinese Republic Period Song Dynasty Style BlackGlazed Stoneware Tea Bowl
BeautifulChinese Song Dynasty style black glazed stoneware tea bowl made during theRepublic Period, probably 1920s. During the 1920s quality potters made SongDynasty style stonewares as auspicious pieces to give as gifts. They wereintended to honor the beautiful Song Dynasty pieces. This tea bowl has a tallishfoot with a shallow base. Dark red tint stoneware body. Has a thick rich black(actually very dark brow...n) glaze. An excellent recreation of the Song Dynastyglazes as presented in Robert Mowry’s 1997 Hare’sFur Tortoiseshell, and Partridge Feathers. Has gold application to the rimto indicate that it is an auspicious piece. This piece does show some glaze andclay oxidation accrued over the last 100 years. If it were Song Dynasty theglaze and particularly clay would be heavily oxidized and possibly crystalized.I purchased this piece as part of a collection about 30 years ago and thecollection had a number of these honorary Song Dynasty style pieces. I now havean actual Song Dynasty tea bowl so I am beginning to sell some of theseauspicious pieces, particularly if they are older and well done.
This piece is in original as madecondition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. There is light oxidation and mildscratches from cleaning. Please inspect the photographs, they are part of thedescription.
