This early pre- prohibition (before 1919) California beer tray is very rare. It belongs to a friend of mine who collected West Coast Pre-pro. Look at the center image It is near mint. We actually could not find any damage, but people throw around the word mint like it was everywhere. We took several photos of the field ( inside image of the girl) and we saw no damage. We took as many good photos to show the good and the bad.. He had only seen this image in a tip tray in 40 years o...f collecting. He is slowly liquidating his collection. He hates parting with any of these trays.This tray has been touched up as one can see. As he calls it "misguided improvement" The lettering has been touched up and for some totally unknown reason someone decided to go over the thin gold line that surrounds the inside border of the tray. You easily see how the thin gold line has been gone over with gold paint. We took several photos of the field ( inside image of the girl) and we saw no damage. Please view all the photos We are hiding nothing. We even black lighted it.The center is fine, and untouched, whew ! So if you can live with touch up on the border, you can get a rare, desirable tray. We certainly know it would be worth a lot more if it was just left alone. Humboldt Beer is not a common location for beer trays. The girl is a beautiful Victorian lady.
