Original Description:
Very attractive vintage ship's Bell Clock Base for a 4 1/2" ship's Bell clock.  We had a Chelsea in it,
but any 4 1/2" clock should fit just fine.The wood base is 11 1/4"" long and 1 5/8" deepThe brass attachment is 10 5/8" X 2 1/2" deep
The cradle part is 1 5/8"" deep and the inside measurement between the two sides is 4 1/2" in the back and 4 3/8" in the front.  There is a groove on the back side of the cradle, which makes it wider in the rear.  
Solid wood ...- looks like Walnut to me.There is a brass attachment on the bottom that we turned over.  That side that reads:MIKE KRUPA
ON THE OCCASION OF YOUR RETIREMENT FROM PAN AMERICAN WORLD AIRWAYSYOUR PAN AM FRIENDS 12-31-76If you are a friend of Mike or Pan Am, it is easy to turn back.  There are 4 screws that hold the brass on.  It looks perfectly correct with the inscription down, adds a little interest and dates the piece.
