This piece is one of a large amount of antique items from the estate of Canadian Brigadier General Septimus Denison, 1859-1937, CMG (Order of St Michael and St George) Chief of Staff – Western Ontario, see the last jpgs. for more items we'll be listing, including a signed copy of his memoirs and a solid silver tray with embossed crown and Prince of Wales feather, a thank you gift from the Prince & Princess of Wales, later King George V and Queen Mary on their Canadian tour in 1901 where Septimus Denison was an Aide de Camp.
In his memoirs, Septimus Denison mentions his service as A.D.C. to Lord Connaught in 1887 (third oldest son of Queen Victoria) and while on a trip with Lord Connaught "up to town"(Windsor), to join the Colonial Contingents being inspected by Her Majesty, and at the close of the inspection "being presented, for the one and only time, to Her Majesty, and later had the pleasure of lunching in the castle with the other officers with all the gold plate and etc. etc." Another mention of being presented with The 1887 Jubilee Medal (which I have, and is the last jpg. in the photos) at Buckingham Palace by The Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) Major Denison(at that time) later went on to become ADC to Lord Roberts in South Africa during the Boer War, and ADC to The Marquis of Aberdeen, Governor General of Canada, and later service to The Prince and Princess of Wales (see above)
Septimus Denison was also a member of the "Old Eighteen" at The Royal Military College, Kingston, Ontario. "The first class of Cadets, eighteen in number, entered the College on 1 June 1876. They dubbed themselves the "Old Eighteen". A tradition of RMC"
