H.R. Cremer first exhibited his photos in 1924 and, over the course of his career, he participated in well over 100 exhibitions and art saloons. H.R. Cremer loved photographing women as Greek and Roman goddesses, elves, and sprites. Harry was the grandson of James Cremer (1821-93), a pioneering photographer from Philadelphia, Harry’s father, Frank R., was a photographer as well, and young Harry was undoubtedly influenced and inspired by both of them. Shortly after graduating from high school, he attended Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts for two years. In the infancy of photography, almost all photographers had other occupations to support themselves. They might be engineers, painters, merchants, or any number of other professions. This, too, was the case of H.R. Cremer. Photography was his passion, but he made a living as a business analyst, specializing in import-export.
