BoomerangsBoomerangs are a multi functional instrument of the Aboriginal First Nations people. Their uses include warfare, hunting prey, rituals an...d ceremonies, musical instruments and digging sticks. Boomerangs made in the desert are non-returning and when thrown correctly can reach distances of 160 metres (175 yards) flying at high speed, killing small animals or stunning larger ones like kangaroos. They are usually made from mulga wood and can be smoothed or incised with various designs purporting to that maker or family groupHunting Instruments Hunting implements include the Boomerang, Woomera, Spear and Shield. The Woomera is distinctively Australian and is a lever to increase the speed at which a spear travels and the distance achieved. Made of wood, Spinifex resin with a hook end of animal bone, it acts as an extension of the thrower’s arm. The Woomera is one of the most sought after of the Aboriginal Artefacts by serious collectors.

Australian Aboriginal ArtAustralian Indigenous Art is the oldest ongoing art in the world. Initial forms of artistic Aboriginal expression were rock carvings, body painting and ground designs, which date back more than 50, 000 years. The quality and variety of Australian Indigenous art produced today reflects the richness and diversity of Indigenous culture and the distinct differences between tribes, languages, dialects and geographic landscapes.
