Vintage Rare Tin Battery-Op Hootin Hollow Haunted House, Marx Toys, Japan. 1960's. AFA nice rare vintage tinplate battery-operated Hootin’ Hollow Haunted House with a multi-coloured tinplate lithographed body, 8 push-buttons on one side, each of which activates a different function, great lithographed features, raised bats on the roof, swinging window shutters and a black plastic cat outside the front door, made in Japan by the Louis Mark’s Co. in the 1960’s. The lithographed de...tail on the toy is some of thebest seen on any tinplate toy of this period. The toy is in very good part-working condition with some playwear and general marks to the tinplate (mainly to the roof)the tinplate is generally clean and free from rust, as is the battery box which is situated in the rear of the house. I had the toy working some time ago on all 8 buttons, but now only someof the mechanical operations work such as the jumping cat and skeleton. The light comes on when the “Ghost at Window” button is pressed, so there is an electrical connection, but nothing else, so maybe a wire to the motor has come loose – I will leave the repair to the new owner as I am reluctant to open up the toy. It measures 9 inches long by 7 wide and 11 inches tall and is marked with the “Marx Toys” trade mark, “Japan” and “LouisMarx & Co. Inc, ” on the rear. A great rare vintage tinplate battery toy which, although not fully working, deserves to be brought back to life, or would be great just for display and is very hard to find in any condition.Please see my other vintage toys I have listed.
