ITEM: (11) Rare, vintage photos taken during WWII of American and Australian troops in the jungle of the Solomon Islands. These are United States Marines special forces fighting in the jungle and setting off bombs. This is the 3rd and last from this collection. I have all posted on a YouTube video1. 11. A native Solomon Islands hut / homeThe battle for Guadalcanal in the Solomon Island was a major campaign. The bitter struggle that took place in which both "slugged it out toe to toe", resulted in loss of 1200 aircraft, 49 ships and as many as 35, 000 American and Japanese men. One of the photos shows one of the massive graveyards there. This was jungle fighting at its worst. They were taken in the Solomon Islands during the battle for Guadalcanal. There are photos that were actually taken during a fight, not just before and after. These brave American heroes served the USMC, the United States Marine Corp and were setting up camps in the jungle and exploding bombs. There are a few photos taken right when the bomb exploded. One shows the men sneaking up a dirt road with rifles and a pistol in their right hand ready to shoot. I just can't believe this man was taking photos during this hellish fighting. I think there are also some forces from Australia fighting alongside the Americans. You can recognize them by their different uniforms. Size: 3.75" x 2.50"
