This auction is for a volume of a vintage portrait of Black urban America and the people, culture, and lifestyles of Harlem during the 1930's. Harlem Document: Photographs 1932-1940 is a portfolio of photographs by Aaron Siskind that reveals Harlem in the 1930's when it was yet a cultural center but a slum. These photos are from two essays, "Harlem Document" and "Most Crowded Block" which Siskind produced for the Photo League during the 1930's.
