Up for bid is a scarce original Civil War CDV photograph of brevet Brigadier General Frederick Winthrop. General Winthrop served in each the 71st New York, 12th US infantry, and the 5th New York Veteran Infantry (Duryea's Zouaves). Winthrop participated in many engagements during the war and was wounded at Weldon Railroad on 8/18/1864, and was killed on 4/1/1865 during the Battle of Five Forks, Virginia. The CDV is in solid condition exhibiting light/moderate soiling and age tonin...g. There is a small paper loss on front in area of Winthrop's left hand (see pic #5). The back of the CDV is back marked by E & HT Anthony, has a tax stamp and some pencil collectors notes.
