It is quite lovely with 15 completed blocks in a variety of embroidered floral and butterfly patterns with the signature of the creator's name on each block. Then the mystery... there are additi...onal blocks that look completed then interrupted with random hacked, chewed, chain sawed, edges. My thoughts are that a skilled seamstress could eliminate the unsightly edges and finish it off as a lovely lap throw, wall hanging, or day bed cover. I also considered, but lacked the skills (and I am overwhelmed with quilts) eliminating the jagged edges and adding a white or lilac skirt ruffles to extend quilt to "twin"+ size. The quilt is backed.
The overall condition is excellent, but years of being folded away at the bottom of a wooden tool chest has left a "dirty hue" on the bottom half of the quilt. (Photos #7-12) I have soaked it in Tide with some success but the "dirty" is not gone. I was fearful to scrub it or place in the washing machine due to it's incomplete state and delicate nature around edges. The overall nature of the material is sturdy with no wearing. (Go figure...)
My Great Grandmother's name, Mary Schoch, is on the quilt, as is her sister's Minnie Schoch, who died in 1891, rendering it at least 100 years old. The meticulous and creative artisan work on the quilt is noteworthy making it OOAK. There are no holes, rips, tears, loose embroider threads, stains (besides dirty hue), goobers, or other unsightly atrocities rendering it "gag" worthy.
