Item History & Price
This is a vintage Figments Cluster Puzzle No.5 in the Jumble-Fits Series, made by CADACO, Inc. TEK Method Co. in 1966 . The 3¾" x 4¾" plastic box is in Good condition with original label. Some History: "Cluster Puzzles" or "Jumble-Fits" were made by Cadaco in the 1960s and 70s. There were 6 titles, initially: Figments, Animals, DOODLES, Sports, Make-Up, and Whimsies. These puzzles came in a plastic case with a clear lid (about 4" X 5") in which each piece was a complete figure (a lady holding a clock, a man talking on a phone at a desk, a dog with a nosebleed (!), various strange creatures) and the borders were not regular and even. There was, included with this, a "clue sheet" that had quotes from the different creatures/characters in the puzzle which gave you hints as to how they fit together. When the puzzle was assembled, each piece fit seamlessly into the collage rather like some of the M.C. Escher prints where complete disparate figures interlock perfectly. Cluster Puzzles were created by artist / designer Alex Palmer and originally sold under his "Tek Method Company" name. They were unique in that each piece was a complete picture and featured humorous hint cards. The "Jumble-Fits" animal puzzle first appeared in 1964 as a frame-tray puzzle. "Figments" followed in 1965 and both were packaged without borders and in plastic boxes. "Sports" #3 in the series came in 1966.
