Detachement Francais Changhai Presentation Shanghai Plaque USMC China Marine WW2
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:252224 |
This plaque was given to then Colonel DeWitt Peck, USMC, the CO of the 4th Marines from the Commander of the French forces, most likely upon Colonel Peck's departure. It reads "OFFERT PAR LE COLONEL ESSAUTIER ET LES OFFICIER...S FRANCAIS DE CHANGHAI" which translates roughly "COURTESY OF COLONEL ESSAUTIER AND THE FRENCH OFFICERS OF SHANGHAI". I obtained a number of Colonel Peck's items a few years ago. He later would become a Major General during WW2 and command the 1st Marine Division upon its occupation of China after WW2.
It measures 6-1/2" tall and is made from a beautiful rosewood. It has a stand to the rear so it can be displayed upright.
This is a rare addition for the French, US Marine or China collector.
