Fliers all over the world, Allies and enemy alike are paying tribute to the almost incredible stamina possessed by the fighting planes turned out by men and women of America. Every day on some far-flung battlefront, shattered and torn U.S.-built planes are returning to their base after combat missions, landing their crews in safety after flights that even the most optimistic of aeronautical engineers would brand "impossible". Much of the credit for these miraculous returns is due, too, to the capability of American pilots. From Rabaul to Berlin, the enemy is learning a new terror for the unbeatable combination -- American planes, and American pilots. This series of photos taken on various of the world's battlefronts gives pictorial evidence that Yank planes can take plenty of punishment and still return to their base. With its tail assembly almost completely shorn off in a raid on Palermo, this Flying Fortress flew 450 miles back to its base making a crash landing with its landing gear up. When the tail gunner was torn free of the plane with the loss of the tail turret, he pulled the rip cord of his parachute and apparently made a safe landing.Photo measures 7 x 9inches. Photo is dated 01-19-1944.  PHOTO FRONT

A: No, we sell only vintage originals and do not make or distribute any copies, including digital ones.
Q: Do you combine shipping and invoices?A: Multiple photos won on the same seller ID combine automatically through the eBay checkout process. Due to eBay limitations, we cannot combine items won on our different seller IDs for a single shipping charge.Q: How quickly do you ship the items once paid?A: We ship within one business day after your payment clears. If you do not receive an "order shipped" email from us by the close of the second business day from submitting payment, please e-mail us via eBay messaging. Q: How do you make sure my photograph arrives safely?A: We package each order between two cross-corrugated pieces of cardboard to ensure that the package is as difficult to bend as possible. We then wrap each order in a plastic sheet to help protect against moisture. We want you to rest assured that we take every precaution to ensure that the photograph you receive will be in the same condition in your care as it was in ours.
