Driver's map and dateline he was given from the US Army from the time of my Dad's leave in Manchester, England in Spring of 1944, his time in southern England waiting for the invasion on D-Day, then his assignment taking supplies through France from June 29 in Grandcamp to his destination in Meaux on October 8.
My father drove truck in WWII. He passed in 2010, my mom in 2018. ...This map was found in my mom's estate, in a file of all my Dad's Army service days. She lived in Manchester England, he was billeted at her home. They met, married, moved to the States in 1945. That's my family history.
I do not fully know the providence of this other than as I described above. Also with this were his ribbons, discharge papers and other items from his time in service in Europe. I certainly believe this is authentic and from that same period as all the other war papers.
On paper stock in purple ink. The Cover reads "First European Civil Affairs Regiment" and "In the European Theater of Operations 1944-1945". Also on the cover is our last name "Kowalski" written in my dad's hand in red pencil.
Overall size is 20.5" x 28".
This is the map of France, and the calendar and assigned route he was to drive, and I am sure, did so. My father mentioned often his accounts in St. Lo during the war. Due to this map, I can see this was in the period of July 6 to August 15. Oddly enough, he landed near Cherbourg on Utah Beach on June 28, 1944, (June 28 being his son's (my) birthday !) After that it shows his travels and route until arriving in Meaux on October 8, 1944.
Of course, there is some yellowing and aging on this paper which is now 75 years old. Still, it is in very good condition. For it's age, I'd say remarkable condition.
Why am I offering this? I am now 62, three times older than my dad when he drove this. My future plans are to retire in Europe soon, and I really can't keep all the trinkets and collectibles I have. I am sure there is a WWII Buff who will treasure this. Those the person that does get this, it belonged to a great, loving, caring man. The best father in the world in my opinion.
My dad smoked in until 1959. Smoke free home, his, mine and mom's since then.I am a long time eBayer with a great record.US SHIPPING ONLY ONLY ONLY ONLY Thank you for looking. Stay safe. Feel free to ask any questions regarding this. I will answer as best as I can, although it is from some 14 years before I was born !
