ITEM: Original WWII Snapshot Photo of KNOCKED OUT GERMAN JAGDPANZER IV TANK DESTROYER DURING THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE. Probably in Luxembourg or Belgium. The image is a little blurred because Sergeant Miller was quickly passing by (not lingering for post-battle pictures!). He called it a "Tiger tank" which was common with GI's who thought any... big tank was a fearsome Tiger. Has a descriptive note written on the back.Photo is from Sergeant (T/5) James W. Miller, S/N 33131729 of the 181st Engineer Heavy Pontoon Battalion. They trained at Camp Forrest, Tennessee, from 1941 through 1943, participated in the Louisiana Maneuvers in August 1942, shipped out arriving at Pangbourne, England on 10 January 1944, and landed on Omaha Beach on 8 July 1944. Their first assignment was clearing mines from Utah Beach. They also fought in the Battle of the Bulge. They built several bridges in the ETO (some while under German fire and suffering casualties). These included pontoon bridges over the Marne at Melun, France (26 August 1944), the Meuse at Dinant, Belgium (7 September 1944), two across the Rhine parallel to the collapsed Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen (March 1945), and over the Weser at Lippoldsberg (8 April 1945). Theirs is quite an interesting story., well told by Sergeant Miller's photos.SORRY.
