A beautiful, large (18" x 25") very good condition Carl Barks print of an original comic page, as he drew it in 1952, with Barks' markings. This is from the very famous Dell Comics issue of DONALD DUCK (# 26) which included the comic book version of the popular Disney animated cartoon "Trick or Treat." The lyrics of the song are incorporated into the story, though not on this page. As always, Barks took considerable liberties with the cartoon, giving the familiar characters much richer... personalities than they tended to have onscreen. His drawing style and storytelling skills were so conspicuously different than the other staff artists that Barks was known by readers of Disney comics as "the good artist, " since all the comics were signed "Walt Disney." It wasn't until years later that by-then-adult Baby Boomers learned about the man who was responsible for some of the best-remembered comics of their childhood. Barks' stature was such that he was permitted, for a time, to paint new versions of the characters for sale. This print, however, is a scrupulous reproduction of the original comic art, full size, as he drew it. It is signed by the artist in pencil on the lower right. This was part of am edition of 299, of which this is number 261, as it says, also in pencil at the lower left ("261/299, " as is traditional in marking a print's place in an edition). The only other version of this print I found on eBay is not numbered, and is offered at a considerably higher price than I am asking. My copy has some discolorations and signs of moisture at a couple of edges and a wrinkle or tear at the center right edge. I bought this a number of years ago, framed it (inexpensively) and have used it as an example in courses at the art museum and college where I worked until retirement. This is *not* original art, but an excellent reproduction of the original art Barks produced almost 70 years ago. The print will be shipped rolled in a sturdy professional art tube for extra safety.
