SWAN 1500 FOUNTAIN PEN IN MABIE TODD BOX WITH OLD PENCIL AND OTHER BITS inc 14KT NIBThis is an interesting box. It is a genuine vintage Mabie Todd repair box which has the original owners name written on the base. It also contains another repair envelope from a shop in Liverpool.There are several oddments in here but concentrating on the pen. Swan 1500 made in England with a gold nib which was made in USA. According to Mr Google, the 1500 was introduced in England in about 1910 an...d manufactured for about twenty years. for the first five or so years the nibs came from their American factory, after this they were made here. Also the early pens did not have clips as in this one. Appears to be black Bakelite with etched design. Cap has a swan logo, Trade Mark and 1500 beneath. Barrel says Swan logo, Trade Mark THE "SWAN" PEN MABIE TODD AND CO LTD MADE IN ENGLAND.The nib appears to be gold and says MABIE TODD AND CO -N.Y.- I have not dipped the nib to see how it writes.The nib can be removed. On unscrewing the pen there is a black rod with an angled flat edge whu-ich appears to hold the nib. There is no bladder in the pen, In the box there are two other bits that look like pen inserts - see photos. There is a propelling pencil with no apparent makers mark. No lead but the mechanism moves in and out.additionally there are two lead containers, empty and a pen clip marked 4 3/4, there is a small 14kt nib WARRANTED 14KT 1st QUALITY, as well as a couple of other small parts
